Pretty Packagaing

 
I love packagaing. From back in my days at the record company when I was working on merchandising and packaging production, I have been obsessed with paper stock, die cuts, foils, letter press and graphics/packaging in general (luckily my significant other is a print engineer and can help me with my "projects"). For me, it is about the feeling of openning something lovely. While I don't have the resources to print/package on a grand scale, I have started implementing little bits of my obsession in my baking. In the vein, here are the tags I have started using for the cakes. I am considering turning this into a sticker, but I need to find some sticky paper for our printer. Soon, soon.

Happy Birthday Birgit!

This cake is one of my very favorite styles and it was for a 70th birthday, which is a big one and one I respect. It was fun to make as I love cakes that are feminine and flowery as I think this style comes out lovely and delicate, not wanting to eat it. In this cake, I was really going for a specific color blue and the original blue I mixed was just not right. It was much too childish, like something for a baby shower. I wanted wedgewood blue, something with more violet. I couldn't figure out how I was going to fix it until I woke up in the middle of the night and realized, duh, add a little violet. It worked and the color in the photos was what I was trying for. The cake is vanilla/vanilla buttercream.
